SIMEULUE ISLAND
& Banyak Islands
North Sumatra,Indonesia

With primary old growth rainforest, incredible and indigenous wildlife, networks of caves, fresh water lakes, vast expanses of mangrove forest, Simeulue Island lies in very deep waters 60 miles off the north-west coast of Sumatra. At 65 miles long, 20 miles wide in a northwest—southeast direction, Simeulue has remained isolated even compared to nearby remote and wild Sumatra. In turn it has evolved its own distinct terrestrial and marine flora and fauna and a diverse culture whose people are incredibly individual, rugged and independent. Mostly though the people of Simeulue Island are coastal dwellers whose character has been forged by the the rugged coastlines and surrounding deep Indian Ocean. With white sand beaches, vast coral reefs, and a pristine blue sea dotted with a multitude of seamounts, atolls, and small islets, Simeulue Island has rarely been visited or explored due to its remote location. Voyage aboard our liveaboard boat M/V Mahtab from Sinabang Harbor, Simeulue as we explore, surf, dive or fish around this incredibly beautiful island and the neighboring island chain to the southeast, the Pulau Banyaks.
